Anthony, NM, To Have First-Ever City Election

ANTHONY, N.M. (AP) – New Mexico’s newest community is to elect its first public officials April 13.

The Dona Ana County Commission set the election date Tuesday for Anthony.

Residents will elect a mayor, four trustees and a municipal judge.

Those who want to run for office must file declarations of candidacy Feb. 16 at the Dona Ana County Government Center in Las Cruces.

Anthony residents early this month overwhelmingly approved a measure to turn the New Mexico community on the state’s border with Texas into an official city.
