Police: Man Stole Credit Card At Gym To Buy Fast Food Gift Card

EL PASO, Texas – A man who allegedly stole a credit card from a local gym used it to buy a food and a gift card at a Whataburger, according to a police affidavit.

Pebble Hills Regional Command Center detectives arrested Ruben Otero, 34, of the 6100 block of North Clark, for Credit Card Abuse.

According to the police affidavit, Otero entered the Planet Fitness on Rojas at about 8:40 p.m. on Feb. 8 and went straight for the locker room. He allegedly stole a credit cardwhile in the locker room andthen went to Whataburger to purchase a $100 gift card and $13 worth of food.

Through the use of surveillance videos provided by various local businesses Otero was identified as a suspect. A warrant was filed and Otero was arrested last week. Otero made a confession that cleared at least 12 cases, police officials said.

Otero was booked on one charge of Credit Card or Debit Card Abuse, a state jail felony. Warrants are being filed for the other cases at this time. Otero was booked in to the El Paso County Detention Facility on a total bond of $12,000.
