UTEP Works To Minimize Parking Problems On Saturday

EL PASO, Texas – While UTEP plays UABat the Don Haskins centerand monster trucks demolish cars at the Sun Bowl on Saturday, the real battle could be in the streets – for parking spaces.

The basketball game is sold out and UTEP officials expect the monster truck event to be well attended, as well. UTEP recommends that attendees for both events arrive early to ensure a good parking spot and to avoid possible traffic backups along Mesa Street, Schuster Avenue and Sun Bowl Drive.

Sun Metro will add extra buses and routes on Saturday to accommodate spectators of the two events. SMART 101 buses will run between the downtown Union Plaza Transit Terminal and UTEP until 10:30 p.m. Saturday. Route 70 buses from the Eastside Transit Terminal at 1165 Sunmount Drive to UTEP will run from 1 p.m to 10:30 p.m., and additional Route 42 buses will run from the Northgate Transit Terminal at 9348 Dyer St. to the Union Plaza Transit Terminal until 10:30 p.m. Attendees can park in the Union Plaza Transit Terminal parking garage for $5 to avoid traffic around the UTEP campus. Bus rides cost $1.25 per trip and 25 cents for transfers. Riders should bring exact change as the drivers cannot make change. For those who choose to drive, Monster Jam attendees are advised to use the campus’s south parking lots off of Schuster Avenue, as well as the inner campus lots. Free Miner Metro shuttles will take guests from the south parking lots to the Sun Bowl. Don Haskins Center visitors are encouraged to park in the lots off of Sun Bowl Drive and Glory Road on the north side of campus.The Sun Bowl Stadium gates open at 5:30 p.m. for Monster Jam, and the Don Haskins Center will open at 6 p.m. for the basketball game.In addition to the Saturday night event, Monster Jam is also scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, March 7 at the Sun Bowl. Tickets for each show are $10 for anyone age two and older and are available at the University Ticket Center or at www.ticketmaster.com.
