DWI Suspect Dies After He Is Detained By Police

Police officials said a man detained by police moments after a wreck in the Lower Valley was found to be unresponsive in the back seat of the police car and was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Police would only describe the man as being 50 years old. They said he was headed south on Hunter street when he crashed his truck into the brick wall of a home near Yuma street.

The man refused medical attention at the scene, police officials said, and was later detained by police officers because his breath smelled like alcohol.

Once he was placed in the back of a police car, the man became unresponsive. Police and emergency crews tried to revive him, but he was pronounced dead when his body arrived at a local hospital.

Police officials said another man, who was a passenger inside the truck, walked away from the scene of the wreck. Late Sunday, police investigators were still trying to locate him.
