El Paso Police Investigate Officer-Involved Shooting On East Side
El Paso Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred near an East Side McDonalds, according to police officials.
At 3:41 p.m., two off-duty police officers traveling in a personal vehicle on Gateway East near Yarbrough were involved in a minor traffic accident when a yellow Pontiac struck them from behind.
The two officers, a male and a female, exited the vehicle to talk to the driver. The driver backed up and tried to flee and in the process hit and ran over the female officer.
The male officer identified himself as an officer and gave the driver verbal commands to stop. The male officer believed the driver would hit the female officer again, at which point he shot the driver one time in the back of the neck. The subject is in critical condition at University Medical Center.
