Wind Advisory In Effect Sunday

The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday as a storm system moving over the Southwest brings strong winds to the Borderland Sunday afternoon and evening.

Winds will blow from the southwest to west at 25 to 35 miles per hour but peak gusts could be as high as 50 mph on the eastern slopes of the mountains, particularly between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m. These winds will bring periods of blowing dust.

Rain chances are at 10% for El Paso and Las Cruces during the day on Sunday and increase to 20% Sunday night, along with the possibility for some thunderstorms.

The winds should diminish overnight, and mostly sunny skies return Monday with highs in the low to mid 70s.

Highs will reach the upper 80s by Tuesday and lower 90s by Wednesday under mostly sunny skies.
