Chaparral High Teacher Indicted For Stalking

A special education teacher has been indicted for allegedly stalking his ex-girlfriend.

Authorities say 31-year-old Samuel Mario Lara works as a special education teacher in the Gadsden Independent School District.

He was arrested April 20 and indicted Thursday on a felony charge of aggravated stalking and a misdemeanor charge of stalking.

According to his bond information form, Lara has threatened to kill not only himself, but his child, his ex-girlfriend, her family and law enforcement officers.

The district placed Lara on paid leave as a special education teacher at Chaparral High School during its own internal investigation.

Lara remains at the Dona Ana County Detention Center with an $8,000 cash-only bond.

The ABC-7 I-Team discovered that Lara was convicted of murdering his father when he was a teenager in 1995. The case was sealed which is why it may not have shown up during a background check for employment.
