El Paso County: Let Us Know If County Parks Need Repairs
Ernesto Villalobos is an avid skateboarder who comes to the skate park in Sparks.
But a hole in the ramp is turning out to be a headache. “This particular hole I noticed last year sometime – I noticed that it was a little busted up and since then it just got a little worse,” said Villalobos.
As the days get longer and the temperatures get warmer, more and more people will be heading out to the skate parks. However, a problem like this could put the brakes on skateboarding.
“You have the young’uns coming out here – the summer’s coming along and, well, if you can’t exercise out here, then the kids are simply gonna find something to get into,” said Villalobos.
He wanted to find out who is responsible for fixing the skate parks, but wasn’t sure, so he contacted ABC-7. We spoke with El Paso County’s Road and Bridge Department, who is responsible for keeping the county skate parks maintained.
After we told them about the problem at the sparks skate park, they went out there to take a look.
“We responded out – went out, we found out there was a board that was broken – we’ve taken the measurements and re-ordered the board – in the process of ordering the board right now,” said Ernesto Carrizal, the department’s assistant administrator.
The county says the board should be replaced in four to six weeks, but they stress they often can’t respond to calls like these unless the public tells them about the problem.
If you notice a problem at one of El Paso County’s parks, such as vandalization or a structure that needs repair, call the county’s Road and Bridge Department at (915) 546-2015.
