Clint ISD, Sheriff’s Office Holding Lockdown Drill At School This Morning

The Clint Independent School District and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office are having a lockdown-active shooter exercise at Horizon Middle School at this time and are reminding the public not to be alarmed by the controlled exercise.

This exercise will allow school officials and area public safety agencies to focus on response plans and procedures for mitigating an “active shooter” on school grounds.

Parents, residents and business owners in the area should be assured that this is a controlled exercise. During the simulation, the sounds of shots fired and sirens from emergency crews may be heard. Surrounding campuses and facilities will also be placed on lockdown.

The exercise will help public safety agencies, the district, and the school to practice notification procedures, implement the school crisis plan, practice lockdown of school/students, initiate incident command and unified command procedures, and the use of multiple teams in an emergency situation, Clint ISD officials said.

Participants: Clint Independent School District staff, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, Horizon Middle School students and staff, District staff, and other area agencies

The exercise should conclude by noon.
