Authorities Continue To Investigate Kidnapping Of Baby

A three-month-old baby is back with her mother after the infant was kidnapped Friday afternoon.

According to authorities, 21-year-old Esai Anthony Sandoval, the father of three-month-old Mia Laylene Ulloa, showed up at the mother’s home on the 600 block of Wake Forest in Sparks around 5:30 p.m.

Officials say he did not have visitation rights, and they say he argued with the mother, 19-year-old Abigale Ulloa-Moreno, before allegedly leaving the home with the infant in his 2001 Ford F-150 pickup truck.

Ulloa-Moreno, fearing Sandoval might take the infant into Mexico, called 911. Authorities were eventually able to make phone contact with Sandoval, who agreed to meet them and turn Mia over to them.

El Paso County Sheriff’s Deputies met Sandoval at the Diamond Shamrock gas station at 1239 N. Zaragoza around 10:15 p.m. that evening, and said the baby girl appeared to be unharmed and healthy.

Mia was reunited with her mother around 10:35 p.m. To be sure, authorities called paramedics to come and check on Mia, who turned out to be okay.

However, investigators say the baby’s father could face charges. “There could be a range of charges from child endangerment to custodial interference but it’s still too early in the case right now to know whether or not those charges are going to apply,” said Sgt. James Belknap of the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
