Man Allegedly Uses Bag Of Ice To Steal Beer From Store
El Paso Police have charged one man in a 2 a.m. robbery after the man used a bag of ice to steal beer.
Christopher Ponce, 22, of the 1100 block of N. Angie, entered 7 – 11 store in Central El Paso Thursday morning and allegedly grabbed a 20-pound-bag of ice that he then threw at the clerk’s face. The bag struck the clerk in the face.
Ponce then allegedly attempted to exit the store with two 12 packs of beer, and an 18 pack, but dropped a 12 pack on his way out of the store and fleeing.
While officers were at the scene conducting their investigation, they noticed Ponce was driving his car slowly towards the store.
The vehicle was stopped at Cliff and Brown and Ponce was inside the vehicle was identified as the robber. He was placed under arrest for robbery. He was booked into the El Paso County Jail on a bond of $10,000.
Central Regional Command area is currently seeing a 8 percent decrease in robberies for 2010 as compared to this same time last year. By the numbers through 06/05/2010 there have been 65 reported robberies as compared to 60 during this same time period last year. The Central Police area is seeing a 7 percent decrease in crime for 2010 as compared to this time last year.
