Local Builder Beefs Up Security After Rash of Construction Arsons
El Paso’s Desert View Homes said it’s made some changes in light of the recent rash of construction arson.
Seven homes have burned over the last few weeks in far east El Paso; all of them just blocks away from each other in the Zaragoza/Rich Beem area.
The most recent fires happened early Saturday morning.
They were Desert View homes.
“Being El Paso’s largest builder, I guess it was our turn to take a hit,” said Desert View Marketing Director Linda Caro.
Caro told ABC-7 the company has increased its own security patrols around their construction sites and they’re currently coming up with a reward to find the arsonist.
Other builders who’ve lost homes to fire include Classic American Homes and Saratoga homes.
Caro said she thinks the companies will be alright in the end. It’s those who live near the construction she worries for.
“We’re afraid that should this happen again, lives will be taken,” she said.
El Paso fire investigators haven’t said whether all seven fires are related.
They continue to ask everyone in the area to keep a look out and report anything suspicious.
