New Las Cruces Country Club Golf Course Finished, Yet Remains Closed

An unpaved road may be what’s keeping people from golfing at the new Las Cruces Country Club.

Located in the Sierra Norte subdivision in Northeast Las Cruces, the golf course ? finished – remains closed. So what is the hold up?

Last week City Council decided Las Cruces Developer John Moscato must extend a main artery to access the golf course.

The oasis is about 2 miles from the nearest residential neighborhood. Construction cannot begin until the City receives the right paperwork.

“It’s an additional 500 linear feet the developer will have to improve,? City Development Services Administrator Cheryl Rodriguez said. ?And to actually do that, they’ll have to submit a set of construction drawings. They have not submitted that plan as of yet so we’re anticipating that shortly.”

ABC-7 obtained recent aerial shots taken of the 7,500 yard property. The access roads mandated by the city appear as entryways that do not yet exist. Moscato said no one is going to be practicing their stroke at the course anytime soon and he cannot give an accurate timeline for when the game will get going.

Moscato said he does not want to jeopardize opening the course as soon as possible ? another reason for a bold orange sign keeping curious trespassers away.

Waiting for what feels like forever, golfers are anxious to swing their clubs on the lush greens.

“It’s how many years now, over two years?? Tom Martinez, Country Club golfer said. ?We were supposed to move in within a year. If I had the money I’d build it myself just to get there.”

Moscato said he should have an announcement about his golf course within the next couple weeks.
