Investigators: Northeast House Fire Began In Garage

Firefighters responded to a house fire Sunday morning in northeast El Paso.

The fire broke out in the 10400 block of Gracecus Way, with fire units responding around 10:40 a.m., according to El Paso Fire Department spokesman John Concha. Neighbors, who smelled smoke, saw the home’s garage fully involved in flames.

Fire crews were able to bring the blaze under control in 15 minutes, Concha said. A family of two was not home when the fire broke out, and no injuries to either firefighters or civilians were reported.

Fire investigators determined the fire began in the garage, but are still trying to determine the exact cause of the blaze, which caused over $75,000 in damages. In addition, a home next door suffered some heat damage to its exterior.

The Red Cross was assisting the family with temporary shelter. The El Paso Fire Department reminds people to call 911 as soon as possible when they see a fire in order to prevent any delays.
