Woman Hit By Driver While Waiting For Bus

A woman waiting for the bus ended up in the hospital with serious injuries Saturday afternoon.

The accident happened shortly after 4 p.m. near the intersection of Edgemere and Red Sails in east El Paso.

According to traffic investigators, 52-year-old Nancy Marquez was standing at the bus stop on a sidewalk, when a 2005 blue Infiniti G35 driven by 17-year-old Diego Garcia came spinning out of control and hit her.

El Paso Police say Garcia apparently lost control and went into a spin, with the front end of the car sustaining major damage. Marquez sustained serious head injuries as a result of the crash.

One neighbor who witnessed the accident said she quickly went to help the woman who had been hit. “I took a blanket out there for her. She was very serious on the floor, bleeding from her head. She was unconscious at first,” said Rachel Hartnett.

Police think wet road conditions may have contributed to the crash. As of Sunday morning Marquez was listed in critical condition at University Medical Center.

Paramedics took Garcia to Sierra Providence East Medical Center after he complained of an asthma attack.
