Alleged Fake Cop Arrested After Pulling Over Real, Undercover Cop

El Paso Police arrested a 20-year-old man last week after he allegedly tried to make a traffic stop on an undercover officer.

Jeremy Hernandez, of the 3200 block of Copper, was arrested for impersonating a public servant at 10:15 p.m. July 15.

Police said Hernandez, equipped with an airhorn and siren, attempted to stop the undercover officer while the undercover officer was responding to assist an officer on a request for emergency back up. The undercover officer did not stop and Hernandez, with airhorn and siren still on, continued to follow the undercover officer in an attempt to stop him.

The officer finally stopped when other responding officers were in the area. A subsequent search of the Hernandez’s vehicle revealed that Hernandez had in his possession a police scanner, emergency light bar and flex cuffs, according to police officials.

Hernandez was booked in to the El Paso County Detention Facility on a $3500 bond. Any person who may have encountered Hernandez as he posed as a police officer is encouraged to contact police.
