El Paso’s Murder Rate Down 83 Percent; Other Crime Rates Also Down
The City of El Paso continues a decrease in overall crime through July 17, 2010, police officials announced on Wednesday.
Overall crime is down 1 percent compared to this same time last year. The murder category is down 83 percent this year compared to last year. Also, there were six during this time period in 2009 as compared to one in 2010.
Burglaries have seen a double digit decrease down 10 percent as compared to this same time period a year ago. Burglaries of vehicles are down 19 percent compared to this same time last year and vehicle thefts are down 9 percent.
Robberies are down 2 percent, thefts are down 2 percent while assaults are up 4 percent during this period. Through 2010, there have been no double digit increase in any crime category and assaults have been the only increase.
