Vehicle Hits Ambulance Carrying Crash Victim From Anthony, NM

Emergency crews responded to a serious crash on I-10 east in Anthony, New Mexico early Sunday morning, only for the ambulance to be hit by another vehicle minutes later in El Paso.

The crash in Anthony happened shortly before 2 a.m., and according to New Mexico State Police, a woman was attempting to exit a moving vehicle. Police say the woman got out and walked west, crossing two lanes of traffic, when a car traveling north on I-10 hit her.

El Paso Police say paramedics were transporting her to University Medical Center but while en route to the hospital, a driver in a red 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse lost control and rear-ended the Life Ambulance on I-10 near the Dallas exit.

Aside from the already injured female in the ambulance, there were no other injuries in the second accident. Life Ambulance was able to summon a second ambulance to get the injured woman to the hospital.

El Paso Police believe speed contributed to the second crash. However, they do not suspect alcohol was a factor.

The driver was cited for failure to yield right of way to an emergency vehicle, failure to control speed, failure to display a valid driver’s license, and an unsafe lane change.

El Paso Police have not yet released the names of anyone in this accident.
