Man’s Watch Robbed At Home; Finds Robber Wearing It At DMV Later

An alert victim of a Saturday home burglary called police on Tuesday after he spotted his stolen watch on the arm of one of the men who took it.

The call led Las Cruces Police to arrest four men allegedly responsible for the burglary and the recovery of some of the property that was stolen.

Martin Ramirez Tovar Jr., 24, Agustin Rey Garcia, 23, Damacio Bernal, 20, and Richard Nieto Jr., 18, were arrested Tuesday evening and are each charged with one count of residential burglary and tampering with evidence.

Las Cruces Police detectives said that Tovar, Garcia, Bernal and Nieto allegedly broke into the victim’s home, on the 600 block of McClure Road , on Saturday, July 31, and took several items including a Bulova watch, a flat screen television, electronic games and jewelry.

On Tuesday, Aug. 3, the owner of the watch was at the Department of Motor Vehicles on personal business when he noticed a man, later identified as Tovar, wearing the Bulova watch that was stolen. The victim called police who arrived and found Tovar and Garcia at the DMV. Detectives questioned the pair and later located more of the stolen property at the home the suspects share.

The four are being held at the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bond set at $10,000 each. Detectives are continuing their investigation and additional charges against the four men are possible.
