Update: Police ID Pedestrian Killed In Hit-And-Run
El Paso Police are still searching for the driver who drove off after hitting a man and killing him with an SUV.
It happened around 10 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Zaragoza and Rich Beem in far East El Paso.
Police investigators said 26-year-old Angel Hernandez was walking across the street when he was struck by a vehicle traveling north on Zaragoza. The vehicle that struck Hernandez fled the scene prior to the officers arrival. Police said Hernandez was likely in or near the crosswalk when he was struck.
Police did not say what the pedestrian was wearing, but ABC-7 noticed the intersection is partially lit by a street light on its north side. Any other light comes from the traffic lights.
ABC-7 archives show residents in the new subdivisions surrounding the intersection had begun vocalizing the need for a traffic light there in August 2009.
A deadly wreck near the intersection of Zaragoza and Rich Beem that claimed the lives of four young people in November prompted City Council to install the traffic signals in May.
At this time, police investigators are asking for anyone with information on this fatal crash please contact police at 915-832-4400 or Crime Stoppers at 915-566-8477.
