Police: Man Throws Out Beer While Being Stopped For Running Light

El Paso police officials said a man ran a red light and as he was being pulled over by officers, he threw a can of beer out of the SUV he was driving.

Gabriel Emanuel Herrera, 23, has been charged with driving while intoxicated, possession of cocaine and tampering with evidence. He also had nine outstanding municipal warrants.

At about 2:10 a.m. Sunday, police investigators said Herrera was driving an SUV and ran a red light at Sun Valley Drive and Dyer Street.

According to authorities, as he was being stopped officers said he threw a 12-ounce can of beer out the passenger side window.

Officials said officers also found an open bottle of liquor in the SUV and during the course of the investigation Herrera tried to destroy about .4 grams of cocaine which ended up on his shirt.

Herrera was booked into the El Paso County Jail on bonds totaling $8,938.90.
