Police: Man Impersonates Cop, Pulls Over Federal Agent
The El Paso Police Department arrested a man early Saturday morning after he allegedly impersonated a police officer and pulled over an off-duty federal agent.
David Armendariz, 25, of the 500 block of Rubin, arrested and booked in to the El Paso County Detention Facility on a single charge of impersonating a public servant, as well as a municipal court traffic warrant.
At about 2:39 a.m. Saturday, Armendariz was driving a red Hummer H3 on I-10 and drove up behind the federal agent with flashing strobe lights.
Armendariz followed the agent as he changed lanes and ultimately stopped on the side of the road. The Hummer then pulled in behind the agent’s vehicle as if he were conducting a traffic stop.
Armendariz never got out of his vehicle and ultimately drove off without contacting the agent and then the agent began to follow the Hummer until they came to a stop at the Academy Sports parking lot located at 801 S. Mesa Hills where the agent identified himself to the occupants of the Hummer.
Officers arrived on the scene and detained Armendariz and a male occupant in the vehicle.
Officers also located an AK 47 assault rifle inside of the Hummer.
