El Paso Sees Double Digit Decrease In Murders, Other Major Crimes

El Paso continues to see a decrease in overall crime, according to statistics released by the El Paso Police Dept. on Friday morning.

Through Saturday, October 30, 2010 overall crime is still down 1 percent, compared to this time last year. The crime categories with the largest decreases across the city are Murders, which are down 80 percent (10 in 2009 compared to 2 in 2010) compared to this time last year, Burglary of Vehicle’s are down 24 percent (2,736 in 2009, compared to 2,085 in 2010) and Vehicle Thefts are down 15 percent (1,517 in 2009, compared to 1,297 in 2010).

By police region, Central had a 5 percent decrease in overall crime, Northeast was down 3 percent, Lower Valley area remains unchanged, Pebble Hills area is up 2 percent, and West Side area is down 3 percent.

Murder is down 80 percent with two reported for 2010, Robbery is up 7 percent, Assaults are up 5 percent, Burglary down 6 percent, Larceny down 4 percent, Vehicle Thefts down 15 percent, and Burglary of Vehicle down 24 percent.

Central Regional Command had a 33 percent decrease in Burglary of Vehicles followed closely by Mission Valley and Pebble Hills (PHRCC) each with 26 percent decreases. West Side Regional Command has a 28 percent decrease in Vehicle Thefts followed closely by Pebble Hills Regional Command with 22 percent decrease.
