Reports Of Gun On UTEP Campus Prove False

The University of Texas at El Paso Police Department received a call Friday morning, Nov. 5, that a man with a gun was in the IC-2 parking lot next to the Liberal Arts Building on campus. Campus police officers responded to the parking lot immediately, where they detained a man and determined that he had a plastic toy gun, according to UTEP officials.

The man identified himself as a former student. Campus police are continuing to investigate the situation Friday morning.

UTEP officials sent out a bulletin to the UTEP community about the incident. The bulletin stated there was no immediate threat on campus and additional information would be posted as it became available.
