Police: Soldier Arrested After Attempting To Disarm Las Cruces Officer

Las Cruces Police arrested a man after he allegedly attempted to disarm an officer who responded to complaints of a loud party early Sunday morning.

Nicholas Deon Robinson, 22, a soldier at Fort Bliss in El Paso and who lists a home address in Arlington, Texas is charged with attempting to disarm a peace officer, two counts of resisting or obstructing a peace officer, and one count each of battery on an officer and assault on an officer.

Shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 7, Las Cruces Police officers were dispatched to the 2100 block of Virginia Pine Way where a loud party was disrupting the neighborhood. As officers dispersed the party-goers, Robinson allegedly approached one LCPD officer yelling and acting disorderly. Officers then observed Robinson trying to open the doors to police units that were parked in the street.

Police officials said a LCPD officer approached Robinson who refused commands and swing a fist in an apparent attempt to strike the officer. As the officer was attempting to arrest the suspect on an assault charge Robinson resisted, grabbed the officer’s duty weapon and attempted to disarm the officer, according to police officials.

After a short struggle, the officer successfully subdued Robinson and took him into custody.

Robinson was transported to the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bond set at $18,000.
