Update: Woman Killed In Sunday Crash On I-10 Identified
El Paso Police officials have released the name of the 54-year-old woman killed in a crash on Sunday morning on I-10 in West El Paso.
Domilita Reyes, of Juarez, was a backseat passenger in a Ford Taurus that was involved in a traffic collision with a tractor trailer.
At about 9:45 a.m. on Sunday, a Taurus driven by Crosol Escobedo of the 300 block of S. Leon in El Paso was traveling in the right lane of I-10 West near Executive Center.
At the same time, Daniel Salvik, of Collegedale, Tenn., was driving a tractor trailer rig in the center lane of I-10 West. Salvik began to change lanes to the right and side swiped the Taurus on it’s left side, causing the Taurus to lose control and spin in front of the tractor trailer.
The tractor trailer then hit the Taurus as it spun in front of the tractor trailer causing it to spin and strike the center metal guard rail.
The Taurus’ impact with the guardrail caused three passengers in the Taurus – Domilita Reyes, Roberto Barraza, and Diego Reyes – to be ejected. Domilita Reyes died at the scene. Crisol Escobedo, Maria Reyes, Roberto Barraza, Diego Reyes, and Crystal Barraza were all taken to University Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. One-year-old Diego Reyes was sitting in a child safety seat and 4-year-old Roberto Barraza was sitting in a booster seat. It does not appear they were property restrained or the seats were not property installed, police officials said.
Police said speed and alcohol are not factors. This is the 57th traffic related death in 2010 as compared to 53 at this time in 2009.
