Fire Causes Damage At UTEP Fox Fine Arts Building

Several people attending classes were evacuated after a fire broke out at the University of Texas at El Paso Fox Fine Arts building.

El Paso fire officials said they got a report of smoke in the building at about 8:30 a.m. Saturday.

Eleven fire units responded. Officials said fire crews found a closet on fire on the second floor on the north side of the building.

According to authorities, it took crews about 10 minutes to extinguish the fire.

Investigators said the fire sparked from an electrical transformer charger plugged into the wall inside the janitor’s closet.

Investigators said all the equipment inside the closet burned, including the shelves.

The fire is estimated to have caused about $2,000 worth of damage. No injuries were reported.

Classes resumed after the building was cleared of smoke.
