Man Arrested After More Than Four-Hour SWAT Standoff

ABC-7 has confirmed the man involved in a SWAT standoff Sunday morning is a Fort Bliss soldier.

El Paso police said officers responded to the 4600 block of Capricorn Drive just before 1:30 a.m. regarding a suicide in progress with a weapon.

According to authorities, Odilon Padaong, 37 and his wife began arguing, the fight got out of hand and that’s when she called police.

When officers got to the scene, officials said they found out Padaong was inside the home and possibly had a gun. That’s when the SWAT and Crisis Management Team were called to the home.

Officials said Padaong fired at least one round from a handgun inside the home. He had also reportedly threatened to kill his wife and pointed the gun at her before she called police and got out of the home.

After several hours of negotiations, police said Padaong was taken into custody shortly after 5 a.m. when SWAT officers tasered him.

Police said Padaong was taken to William Beaumont Army Medical Center where he was treated then released.

Padaong was booked in to the El Paso County Detention Facility on charges of discharging a firearm in certain municipalities and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon – family violence.

His bond totaled $5,500.
