Alleged Drunk Driver Crashes Into Sheriff’s Deputy’s Car

A 65-year-old man was arrested Tuesday night after he was allegedly drunk and crashed into a parked El Paso County Sheriff’s patrol car.

Alberto Ruiz, of the 1300 block of Tango in San Elizario was driving a white Toyota pick-up truck shortly before 8 p.m. Tuesday when he crashed into the rear of a sheriff’s vehicle that was parkced off the road, next to the westbound lanes of the 12700 block of Montana.

According to responding deputies, Ruiz was highly intoxicated and they detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath and person.

The Sheriff’s deputy in the patrol unit was transported to an area hospital with back, neck and head injuries. The deputy is expected to make a full recovery.
