Gov’t Going After Home Of Man Facing Child Porn Charges
A federal grand jury has indicted a man facing child porn charges.
Omar Jose Magaa, 39, faces six counts of child porn. The former Las Palmas Medical Center Director of Case Management is charged with receipt, distribution and possession of child pornography, along with receipt and possession of obscene material depicting sexual abuse of a child.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office stated in a news release that the indictment includes a notice of criminal forfeiture, meaning the government is trying to seize his home, along with electronic equipment allegedly used to obtain the graphic sexual images.
Magaa was arrested on Oct. 14 after agents with the Homeland Security Investigations Cyber Crimes Group executed a search warrant at his home.
Agents seized three computers, hard drives, electronic media, cell phones and cameras.
U.S. Attorney’s officials say agents recovered more than 100 videos and 1,800 images depicting child porn and sexual exploitation.
According to the criminal complaint, Magaa broke into tears, telling investigators he prayed he’d get caught because he knew what he was doing was wrong, but that he was addicted and needed help.
Magaa could face 90 years in prison if convicted on all six counts and would serve them consecutively.
