Northeast Family Saved From House Fire By Smoke Alarm

A fire broke out at 2:30 a.m. Friday morning in the 10400 block of Orpheus Drive in northeast El Paso, according to El Paso Fire Department.

The first fire fighters on the scene said they reported heavy smoke and flames coming from the front bedroom window of the home. Additional units were called and the fire was quickly brought under control.

Investigators said the fire started in a bedroom and the cause has been ruled as an electrical short in the bedroom.

The family who lived in the home were able to safely evacuate after the fire department said they heard the smoke alarm. The fire originated in the family’s 1-year-old child’s bedroom.

The fire department said there were no injuries to firefighters or the family.

Investigators estimated fire damages at $60,000. The American Red Cross will be providing temporary housing for the family.
