‘Energy Vampires’ Can Drive Up Electricity Bills

Research shows that’s how much you could save if you kept your plasma TV from using energy when you’re not using it.

Electronics that are left on when nobody is using them are big culprits that drive up the electricity bill.

El Paso Electric calls items like computers on standby or tvs with displays “energy vampires.”

“Some things are just a couple cents here and a couple cents there, but when you have the bigger items – computers that are on standby, plasma TVs, those things really add up,” said Dorothy Wells, of El Paso Elecric.

Wells said the easiest thing to do is unplug things that aren’t being used.
