Father Arrested After Allegedly Abandoning Children On Side Of The Road

A 53-year-old man was arrested Friday night after he allegedly left his two children by the side of the road.

Arturo Sanchez, of the 100 block of S. Harris, told El Paso Police he left his 10-year-old son and 9-year-old son at the intersection of Lomaland and Yermoland after arguing with his wife on the phone. Sanchez allegedly told the children to walk home, which is four miles away.

He told police that he returned to the area moments later but could not find the children.

Police began a search of the area in an attempt to locate the children. The search led police to the home of one of the boys family member’s home about 1 1/2 miles from where they were left.

Police have arrested Sanchez and charged him with two counts of Abandoning or Endangering a Child with intent to return ( Felony ). Sanchez was booked in to the El Paso County Detention Facility with a total bond of $5000.
