Update: Crash Sends 7 To Hospital In East El Paso

Seven people, including three children, were sent to the hospital following an SUV crash at Gateway West and Lee Trevino, this according to emergency radio dispatchers.

The crash happened just before 1 a.m. Saturday.

An ABC-7 camera was rolling as a tow truck hauled away a gray SUV with extensive damage to the front.

When officers arrived, officials said they found a 2005 Kia Sorento that had rolled over.

Police said the driver, Maribel Machado, 36, was traveling west on Gateway West and hit the curb. They said the SUV travelled across three lanes of traffic and rolled over into a dirt embankment.

Investigators said a 2-year-old and a 5-year-old were not properly restrained and were riding on the laps of some of the occupants in the Kia. No one was ejected from the Kia, officials said.

Officials said non of the occupants was seriously hurt. Police do not believe alcohol was a factor in this crash.

Machado was issued 3 citations. One for failure to control speed and two for the unrestrained children in the vehicle.
