Update: Fire Rips Through Lower Valley Home

El Paso firefighters had their hands full early Saturday morning at a house fire on the 9500 block of Martinique Drive near Socorro Road in El Paso’s Lower Valley.

Twenty-two firefighters responded to the blaze, which started at about 4 a.m., according to officials.

When they arrived on the scene, firefighters told dispatchers the roof of the home was engulfed.

Fire officials said those inside the house were warned by a working smoke detector and were able to self evacuate.

Preliminary investigations indicate the source of the fire may have been a faulty chimney.

No injuries were reported.

Estimated damage has not been released.

The El Paso Fire Department recommends homeowners have their heaters and furnaces inspected and serviced by a licensed plumber to ensure proper function and to make sure carbon monoxide levels are not accumulating.
