Windy Weather Sweeps Through El Paso
Strong winds made for a dusty afternoon all over the borderland. The view of the Sun City from Scenic Drive was unusual — thick clouds of wind-whipped dust looked more like a blanket of fog over El Paso.
“I saw the dust and I said, ‘Oh my gosh!'” said Annakay Beall. The young girl and her family were in the Northeast’s Veteran’s Park doing some skateboarding when they spoke with ABC-7.
“It’s kinda creepy because when I went on that huge ramp with my skateboard it almost blew me off the edge!” she said.
Howling winds did damage throughout town. At one Northeast plant nursery, ABC-7 reporters spotted several broken branches and knocked-down plants. Strong gusts kicked up dirt into the streets and knocked down signs.
Our traffic cameras were rolling on Interstate 10 when the wind carried a mattress onto the middle of the highway. A policeman had to carry it away.
Back at the park, the Beall family was bundled up in hats and sweaters. Annakay’s father, Nathan, said they wouldn’t let a little wind get in the way of their day. “That’s one nice thing about El Paso. It might be windy but the sun’s always shining.”
