Puppy Recovering From ‘Chemical Burns’

A puppy is recovering at the Animal Rescue League of El Paso from wounds a local veterinarian says may be the result of a chemical burn.

The dachshund-mix was found wandering near the Valley Creek neighborhood in El Paso’s upper valley according to the no-kill shelter.

Nicknamed ‘Kyle,’ the puppy suffered burns to his lower left side and his rear end.

Because of the nature of the wounds, bandaging is out of the question.

Caregivers at the Rescue League instead bathe the puppy several times a day and keep him on pain medication.

Dr. Nancy Harvey treated the animal initially. She told ABC-7 she’s not sure whether someone intentionally burned Kyle or whether the animal found itself lying near a leaking battery.

Either way, Dr. Harvey said it should never of happened.

“It’s gross negligence,” she said. “He may need some surgeries after it’s healed. He has a rough road ahead.”

Dr. Harvey says it could be five to eight weeks before Kyle is somewhat healed.

If you’d like to help or try and adopt the puppy, contact the Animal Rescue League of El Paso at (915) 877-3785.
