Motorcyclist Killed in Late-Nite Far-East El Paso Accident
A man is dead after a late-night crash in far-east El Paso Friday night.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office tells ABC-7 the wreck happened near the intersection of Montana and Zaragosa. Deputies say that 21-year-old Marco Jimenez was speeding westbound on his 2007 Triumph motorcycle on Montana.
Jimenez somehow lost control of his bike, and struck the rear of a Honda Civic. Investigators say the impact launched Jimenez over the car, where he finally came to rest in the middle of the street. Both the driver and passenger in the Civic were uninjured.
Officials say that a white Cadillac Escalade, driven by 30-year-old Jorge Pena, entered the accident scene at high speed. Pena’s Cadillac then struck the bike and Jimenez, dragging both for an undisclosed distance.
Emergency crews rushed Jimenez to a local hospital where he died a shot time later from his injuries.
According to Sheiff’s investigators, Pena never attempted to stop after the wreck, and fled the scene. Deputies caught up with him a short distance away and discovered that he was ‘highly intoxicated.’
Pena was arrested and is facing multiple charges including Felony DWI and Accident Involving Personal Injury or Death.
Deputies say both speed and alcohol were contributing factors in the accident. They add that Jimenez was not wearing a helmet.
