Rolling Outages Start Up Again

EL PASO, Texas — El Paso Electric initiated rolling outages again at 6:30 pm. The outages will continue through at least 10:00 pm, for periods up to an hour at a time.

El Paso Electric has limited power right now. All eight of its local power generators have been down since around 11:00 Wednesday morning because of the extreme temperatures outside, leaving the company to depend on limited power from a plant in Phoenix.

EPE is asking all offices and businesses to use as little energy as possible. Customers can minimize the chance power surges will occur by turning off all but essential appliances, lights and other electrical equipment. Also, minimize unnecessary travel, as traffic signals may go out of service, resulting in traffic jams.
