Children Killed In Northeast El Paso Fire Remembered Friday; Donate To Memorial Fund
Hundreds gathered at the Parkland Middle school’s gymnasium on Friday afternoon to honor Isaiah Matos who died last month.
The Parkland Middle School community shared their memories of the 14 year-old. Students gave the Matos family gift boxes, to remind them, Isaiah’s memory will live on.
“Flowers, posters, pictures,” Isaiah’s friends, Leslie Soto said. “We had to show the family Isaiah will be missed.”
Matos, his two siblings Eboney Jones, 10, and Deman Jones, 9, and their grandmother died because of injuries suffered from a fire that tore through a home on the 10100 block of Wolverine Drive in Northeast El Paso
At the ceremony, the Parkland football team retired Isaiah’s number.
“He passed his classes and made big plays on football field,” Football coach, Vincent Morua said. “That’s what describes Isaiah. He had heart. He was little, but he had heart.”
According to a Ysleta Independent School District, spokesperson the school will coordinate a fundraiser for the family in the coming weeks.
A bank account has been opened to help the family with funeral costs. Donations can be made to the account at First Light Federal Credit Union. The account is under their father’s name, Luis Manuel Matos, and the number is 9593606.
