Update: Fire Breaks Out At Asarco
Salvage crews working at the old Asarco plant got quite a scare after a fire ignited Wednesday afternoon.
Fire investigators said the fire started in the water treatment plant. Crews were working with a blow torch when flames made contact with a titanium pipe. Because the metal can explode if mixed with water, firefighters decided to let the fire burn itself out.
No injuries were reported.
