El Paso Police have identified the man that was killed in a single-vehicle crash Monday morning on Loop 375 near the Spur 601 exit.

The man has been identified as Gabriel Vasquez, 30, of the 3200 block of Running deer.

Police said the investigation has shown that a 1992 Lexus was traveling north on Loop 375 at 1:17 a.m. when the driver, Vasquez, lost control of the Lexus causing it to go off the roadway and struck two metal light poles.

Vasquez died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash. Front seat passenger Roman Allen, 22, of the 10700 block of McAllen, was transported to University Medical Center by El Paso Fire/Medical with serious but what are not believed to be life threatening injuries.

Police said at this time investigators believe speed and alcohol may be factors in the crash. Police also said failure to wear a seat belt may be a factor but police could not say immediately if the driver, passenger or both were not wearing a seat belt.

This is the 19th traffic related death in 2011 compared to 14 at this time in 2010.
