Ex-Socorro City Councilman Pleads Guilty To Felony Drug Possession
Former Socorro city councilman Luis Varela pled guilty last wk to possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and possession of cocaine – both felonies, according to El Paso District Attorney spokeswoman Renee Railey.
Having no prior felonies, Varela was eligible for probation and was given 10 years of probation – the maximum he could receive without serving prison time.
Varela was accused by authorities of trying to sell marijuana to undercover El Paso County Sheriff’s deputies and having cocaine in his truck last November.
