Police: El Paso Teen Flees Cops With Brick On Accelerator, Hopping Walls
A brick on the accelerator, hopping walls and hiding under a car may all seem like scenes from a movie, but El Paso police say those are the different ways a 19-year-old tried to flee from officers early Monday morning.
Poblano, of the 2000 block of Bay Court, was driving a 1991 blue Lincoln Town car on El Portal Street at 3:30 a.m. Monday when police attempted to stop him for outstanding warrants.
Poblano stopped his car but as the officers approached the vehicle, he fled in the vehicle from officers.
At Mission and Yandell, Poblano put a brick on the accelerator of his car, put it in reverse, and fled on foot, jumping rock walls in the 600 block of Mission, from the officers, police said.
The vehicle rolled back, coming to rest on a raised curb, causing no damage or injuries. Central Patrol officers continued to search for Poblano, who was eventually found in the 4700 block of Yandell hiding underneath a vehicle. Poblano was holding onto the undercarriage of the vehicle in his effort to prevent officers from placing him under arrest, police said.
Poblano was taken into custody and charged with evading arrest with a prior conviction, evading arrest in a motor vehicle, resisting arrest search or transport and on the previous warrant for accident involving injury and evading arrest. He was booked into the El Paso County Jail on bonds totaling $11,700.
