UTEP Associate Athletic Director Wickstrom Finalist For Ill. State Job
The three finalists for the position of athletics director at Illinois State University will be on campus April 18, 21 and 26 for interviews, including the University of Texas at El Paso Senior Associate Athletic Director Brian Wickstrom, according to an announcement made by Illinois State Friday afternoon.
Illinois State faculty, staff and students will have the opportunity to attend open forums for each candidate and complete evaluation forms that will be distributed at the forums. The candidates are Jane Meyer, senior associate athletic director at the University of Iowa since 2001; Wickstrom, senior associate athletic director at UTEP since 2006; and Gary Friedman, senior associate athletic director at the University of Louisville since 2009.
Wickstrom, who makes $115,007 a year at UTEP, will be on the Illinois State campus at 2:30 p.m. April 21 in the Bone Student Center Old Main Room.
The Illinois State athletics director is responsible for administering all aspects of the University’s athletics program. Illinois State competes in eight men’s sports and 11 women’s sports at the National Collegiate Athletics Association Division 1 level and is a member of the Missouri Valley Conference and Missouri Valley Football Conference.
Wickstrom was recently 2011 C-USA basketball championship director for the C-USA men’s and women’s basketball tournaments in El Paso in March.
Wickstrom has been a finalist for several athletics director jobs in the last few years.
He was a candidate for the University of Houston athletic director position in 2009 but lost out to Mack Rhoades, Akron’s then athletic director who also been an associate athletic director at UTEP. Also in 2009, Wickstrom was a finalist for the South Alabama and Marshall University athletics director jobs.
