El Paso’s Major League Soccer Rookie Makes Debut In Houston Game
Omar Salgado?s father, Eduardo, drove 10 hours from El Paso to see his son?s Major League Soccer debut in Houston on Sunday ? leading a small Salgado family contingent anxious to witness the much-anticipated event, according to a report in the Vancouver Sun.
?I?m just so excited about watching the game and meeting all you guys from Vancouver,? said the 49-year-old soccer dad, who attended the game along with cousins Joaquin Salgado, Enrique Cortazas and Enrique?s girlfriend Marcie.
Salgado came on in the 84th minute of the Caps? 3-1 loss to the Dynamo.
The Salgado family thought Omar would debut with Vancouver during the April 16 game against Chivas USA but the U.S. U-20 team?s unexpected early exit from the CONCACAF World Cup qualifying tournament in Guatemala freed him up to join the club in Texas.
His mother and his grandmother have already booked plane tickets to Vancouver this week to watch the game against Chivas. Eduardo spent 10 days in Vancouver last month and loved the city, telling his wife that “there’s nothing ugly there. Everything is beautiful.”
