NMSU Softball Player Arrested For Allegedly Hitting, Choking Teammate
New Mexico State University softball player Leihoku Nohara has been charged with aggravated battery after she allegedly hit her teammate, according to a police report.
She faces a third degree felony.
Nohara, who goes by Hoku, was accused by teammate Shaleese Javillo of striking her in the face and then choking her nearly to unconsciousness on April 5, according to the police report.
The police report states the incident occurred at a South Las Cruces, New Mexico apartment when Javillo confronted Nohara about unspecified rumors.
That allegedly led to a verbal argument in which Nohara threw Javillo into a wall, struck her in the face and put her in a choke hold.
A softball coach later arrived and took Javillo to a hospital.
NMSU officials said Nohara has not played in the Aggies last four games because of a violation of team rules.
Nohara, a senior, is widely thought to be the best player on the team and is already the school’s all-time home run leader.
