Las Cruces Police: Woman Allegedly Had Sex With 12-Year-Old Boy, Knees Cop
Las Cruces Police have arrested a 19-year-old woman after it was discovered that she allegedly had a sexual relationship with a 12-year-old boy, according to police.
Melanie Maya Freeman, 19, of the 1900 block of Avenida de Mesilla, is charged with one count each of criminal sexual penetration of a minor, a first-degree felony, and battery on a peace officer. Freeman also had two outstanding municipal warrants for her arrest.
At about 9 a.m. Wednesday, a Las Cruces Police officer went to Freeman’s home in an attempt to serve two outstanding municipal warrants. The officer was greeted at the door by a relative of the woman and was told that Freeman was in an upstairs bedroom. According to police, Freeman refused repeated orders to leave the room so officers entered and found Freeman in bed with the boy.
As police were escorting Freeman to a patrol car the woman allegedly struck one of the officers with her knee. The officer was not seriously injured.
Police said detectives learned that Freeman and the boy, whose families know each other, had engaged in sexual relations on the previous evening.
Freeman is being held at the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bond set at $55,000.
