Officials: Credit Card Abuse Rising In The Sun City
The El Paso Police Department is warning residents about the increase in credit card abuse.
In the month of April alone there have been 68 reports filed, compared to last year at the same time when just 47 cases were reported, police officials said. That’s an 86 percent increase.
Thieves get a hold of your card and swipe it on a device that stores all of your information. You could be giving your card to an employee at a restaurant or other business and that’s when they “skim” you, police said
Your credit card is then returned, but now the thieves have your information that they can use at a later time.
Here is what you can do to prevent credit card skimming:
1) Review your bank statements
2) Talk to your bank if you notice something suspicious
3) Be selective when you hand your card to someone
If you have any information on who may be committing these crimes, call Crime Stoppers at 915-566-8477.
