El Paso ID Man Involved In SWAT Situation That Delayed School Start Times
El Paso Police have identified the 32-year-old man involved in a SWAT standoff late Sunday into Monday morning.
Daniel Stumpf, of the 3400 block of Lebanon, was booked into the El Paso County Jail on the charge of aggravated assault. His bond was set at $25,000.00.
Officers from the El Paso Police Department’s Central Regional Command Center responded to a family fight call at 11:30 p.m., Sunday, April 24 in the 3400 block of Lebanon.
Police said the investigation revealed that Stumpf had been engaged in a verbal altercation with his wife. The altercation escalated to the point where Stumpf allegedly pointed a small black handgun at his wife and forced her to her knees, according to police.
His wife was able to leave the home with all other family members, leaving Stumpf inside the home. Police said further investigation revealed that Stumpf had several firearms inside the home and he refused to speak with police or exit the home.
The Crisis Management Team (CMT) and SWAT team were called to the address to assist. CMT personnel were able to engage Stumpf in conversation early Monday morning. At 8:30 a.m., chemical agents were deployed by police into the home.
Moments later Stumpf exited the home and was taken into custody.
Traffic was interrupted on Copia street and the surrounding neighborhoods from 11:30 p.m., Sunday till 9 a.m., Monday. Crockett Elementary and Austin High schools were placed on a delayed start by the El Paso Independent School District. Sun Metro and the American Red Cross assisted with individuals that were displaced during the incident. There were no reported injuries as a result of this incident.
